Why and How we should tell others?

I still struggle with this as most do, but especially as a new believer and as with anything there is a right way and a wrong way of doing it.

Why should we talk about our Christian faith? Isn't it a private matter? Isn't the best sort of Christian the one who just lives the Christian life?

Sometimes people say to me, "I know someone who is a fine Christian. He or She has a strong faith, but He or She doesn't talk about it. Isn't that the highest form of Christianity?"

The short answer is that someone must have told He or She about the Christian faith right?
The slightly longer answer is that there are good reasons for telling others about Jesus.

First, it is a command of Jesus Himself. Did you know the word "GO" appears 1514 times in the Bible? 233 times in the new Testament and 54 times in Matthew alone.
Jesus tells us to "GO"; "Go to the lost sheep..", "Go and tell John..", "Go and invite all you meet.."
"Go and make disciples.."

Indeed these are the last recorded words of Jesus in Matthews gospel: Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of age" (Matthew 28:18-20)

Secondly, we tell people because people desperately need to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. If we were in the Sahara Desert and discovered an oasis, it would be extremely selfish not to tell the thirsty people around us where their thirst could be satisfied. Jesus is the only One who can satisfy the thirsty hearts of men and woman. Often the recognition of this thirst comes from surprising sources.

The singer Sinead O'Connor said in an interview: "As a race we feel empty. This is because our spirituality has been wiped out and we don't know how to express ourselves. As a result we are encouraged to fill that gap with alcohol, drugs, sex, money. People out there are screaming for the truth."

That story unfortunately is all to familiar, I know except for the drugs, I was just lucky that I was never a fan. But everything else Sinead referenced, that was me just a few years ago. Feeling empty, trying to fill that void with alcohol, sex, money you name it. Knowing I was missing something and instead of recognizing that it was Jesus knocking on my door, I refused to let Him in and continued to try and find what I was missing elsewhere, which so many do, and it NEVER works out well.
